11/2024: Preparing 2029 – A Franco-German Outlook on the European Agenda
On 28 and 29 November 2024, the Pariser Platz Dialogue took place at the Axica Convention Centre in Berlin under the theme “Preparing 2029 – A Franco-German Outlook on the European Agenda.”
Now in its fifth year, the Pariser Platz Dialogue series serves as a platform for exchange, bringing together voices from both sides of the Rhine to discuss and develop ideas on how France and Germany, along with their European partners, can shape a common future and foster Franco-German cooperation in the long run.
The two-day program featured focused, Chatham House-style discussions addressing key priorities for Europe’s future:
- Boosting European competitiveness in an age of transformation
- Financing investment needs: which mix of private and public funds?
- Fostering rule-based global trade: what do we need?
- EU enlargement and reforms: what we need to prepare for
- European defence ambitions in the new commission
- Changing dynamics in the EU: who will provide leadership?
- Democratic resilience in times of uncertainty – the EU’s role
The Pariser Platz Dialogue 2024 once again demonstrated its value as a platform for visionary ideas, supporting European unity and progress through Franco-German cooperation.
Following the Chatham House discussions, a virtual public panel offered an opportunity for broader engagement, sharing insights and outcomes from the closed-door Pariser Platz Dialogue. Against the backdrop of a rapidly shifting geopolitical and economic landscape, the panel explored where the EU should aim to position itself by 2029 and how these ambitions can be realised. Participants were invited to pose questions and contribute to this dialogue on Europe’s future.
